Slow Food brings international flavour to Bristol from May 3rd – 5th

The world-renowned Slow Food is making a very special guest appearance at Bristol Food Connections. From 3-5 May, College Green will be transformed into a Slow Food market and pop-up pizzeria.

Slow Food has chosen to partner with Bristol Food Connections because of the groundbreaking, citywide festival’s mission to highlight good food projects and celebrate artisan products. A philosophy that Slow Food shares and is highlighting with its Ark of Taste products, which together with their producers are the stars of the market.

Slow Food’s Ark of Taste project travels the world collecting small-scale quality productions that belong to the cultures, history and traditions of the entire planet. The Ark of Taste market will showcase just a few of the British products in the online catalogue: Tamworth Pig, Artisan Caerphilly cheese, Manx Loaghtan Sheep and Goosnargh Cake.

For three days only, a Grand Pavilion tent will be pitched in College Green that will also house Slow Food’s pop-up pizzeria. Visitors will be able to pop in to find out how real artisan pizza is made by chefs from Italy who will use real raw materials and Ark of Taste products. Free, educational taste workshops will also be taking place within the Grand Pavilion, helping to raise awareness of the importance of locally sourced, artisan ingredients.

Commenting on Slow Food’s presence, festival curator Lorna Knapman said: “We are delighted to welcome Slow Food, both the International and UK branches as very special guests. It is such an inspirational organisation that shares the same values as Bristol Food Connections of making good food accessible to all.”

Slow Food International said: “Slow Food highly welcomes the idea of launching such a festival, firstly due to the city’s proudly maintained culinary heritage and diversity, and secondly because Bristol was chosen as the European Green Capital 2015. The scope of Bristol Food Connections is to highlight good food projects and celebrate artisan products, which coincides entirely with the Slow Food philosophy. The international association of Slow Food is thus honored to be an event partner along with Slow Food UK, as it provides a great opportunity for participants to meet likeminded people, as well as for community and network building.”
