The unveiling of the new Harden’s Best UK Restaurants Guide brings with it some great news for the South West’s dining scene, with the region making up over 10% of the guide’s Top Scoring 500 restaurants. What’s more, one Bristol restaurant has ranked in the guide’s Top 100.

The new publication is the 32nd edition of the Harden’s Guide: the only bookshop-sold UK restaurant guide that is based on the feedback of diners, rather than professional inspectors. Based on 30,000 reports from a survey of 3,000 diners it includes all types of venues, from street food traders to high-end, ambitious establishments.

Coming in at number 87 in the new guide is Wilson’s Restaurant on Bristol’s Chandos Road, adding to the venue’s already impressive list of accolades and awards. Since 2016, independently-run Wilson’s has been providing Bristol with dishes informed by their connection to nature, the majority of the vegetables coming from their own kitchen garden.

Number one on this year’s Harden’s list is Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at The Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, with Evelyn’s Table at the Blue Posts (London) and The Waterside Inn (Bray) rounding off the top three.

Co-founder of Harden’s, Peter Harden, says, “It has been an excellent year for the South West’s representation in the Harden’s Top 100, with eateries across the region being hailed as some of the top scorers in the UK by our 3,000 discerning diners.

“The South West is a treasure chest of fantastic produce from both land and sea, along with some of the country’s finest suppliers. Chefs in the area are making full use of such local resources, creating simple menus that champion all the good stuff that’s right there on their doorstep and diners’ appreciation for this is reflected in the hugely positive scores that these restaurants receive.”
