Sometimes, a meal out is a decadent treat. Sometimes, though, I just want something healthy: something that’s both nutritious and delicious. That’s where Juice Bros in Bury St Edmunds recently came in.
Serving up breakfast and lunch bowls, pittas, smoothies, freshly made juices and more, it’s a popular place. There’s just one thing that concerns me about eating there…
You’ll find Juice Bros in the Arc Shopping Centre. It’s a bright and airy place with its floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides. There’s a small amount of outside seating and a decent amount of space – both at tables and at window counters – inside, although the place very much gives off an “order to take away” vibe.
The long counter fills most of one side of the venue. Next to a chiller full of pre-packaged drinks and snacks is the space where the Juice Bros team store their juice ingredients, and a large food prep area.
As well as hot drinks and bottled drinks, the Juice Bros menu includes smoothies, wellness shots and raw juices, all made fresh to order. My choice? The 12oz Dark Green Juice (£6.50), with kale, spinach, parsley, cucumber, lemon, ginger and apple.
Doesn’t it look attractive in its handled mason jar? The consistency was perfect, and the quantities of each ingredient were bang-on. The greens added a vibrant colour but with none of the bitterness that green juices can sometimes have. The cucumber, lemon and apple flavours all came through strongly, the ginger making an appearance at the end. Delicious.
With such a varied food menu, it took me a while to choose. In the end, though, the Superpower Bowl (£12.95) took my fancy.
It was a HUGE bowl. It featured quinoa, plenty of baby spinach, half a ripe avocado and crumbled feta throughout the bowl. There were cucumber pieces – and there were supposed to be cherry tomatoes, but these were missing. The promised hard-boiled egg had a slightly jammy yolk (not an issue for me at all), and the blackened chicken breast pieces were lovely and tender, and full of flavour. It came with a generous drizzle of sweet honey balsamic vinaigrette, plus a handful of mixed seeds scattered over the top for added texture.
It took me a while to eat, and I definitely felt satisfied afterwards – healthy salads don’t need to be boring!
HOWEVER…
Healthy salads should be made in accordance with food hygiene standards. I almost wish I hadn’t checked the food hygiene rating for Juice Bros post-visit, as I love their ethos and their offering.
An inspection in January 2025 resulted in a food hygiene rating of 1 – major improvement necessary. The inspectors had concerns about hygienic food handling, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building, as well as management of food safety – a little concerning. Until their rating has improved, I sadly won’t be heading back.
