What started as a creative way for home bakers to share their craft has blossomed into a full-blown trend, with cake sheds popping up across the UK. One of the newest is the little pink shed in Old Moulsham in Chelmsford, Essex – and it’s proving ridiculously popular.
The Iced Jem’s Chelmsford cake shed has had more customers than owner Jem Bethany ever expected. With a tantalising selection of old school cakes, brownies, blondies and cookies advertised on her Instagram feed, we decided to have a wander over to check it out.
She confirmed the exact address via Instagram DM before we visited: just a 10-minute walk from my mum’s, which is a little too convenient!
The bright pink shed on the garden path was easy to spot. The path is pretty narrow and the shed is pretty low down, so bear this in mind if you have mobility problems!
Open the doors and you’ll find all the info you need inside, from how to pay to allergen, certification and insurance information.
Inside, the cakes are all individually packaged and stored in separate tubs, labelled with their name and price.
With family staying, we chose a mix of six different options to take home and paid by scanning the QR code on the door.
All of these bakes from the Iced Jem’s Chelmsford cake shed were generous in size! My son’s Biscoff blondie was a massive hit. Me? I went for the raspberry and white chocolate blondie.
I loved the swirled topping, and the fudginess of the blondie itself. Packed full of flavour, it was a real treat – and more than justified its £3 price tag.
