Bedminster’s East Street will come alive after dark over the weekend of 21st – 23rd March with a three-day multimedia installation by world renowned light artist Ulf Pedersen and a delicious evening street food market. Visitors can marvel at the installation while enjoying the very best home cooked international cuisine.

The installation by Bristol-based Ulf Pedersen will act as the focal point of the celebrations on East Street, creating Paradise Gardens; a temporary lighting installation designed to take inspiration from the vast green spaces once part of the area. Permanent architectural lighting will create a dramatic effect on key period buildings in the area. This coupled with video projections of Ulf’s observations from the street and soundscapes reflecting the once green arable spaces will attract visitors to explore more of the area’s streets.

Ulf Pedersen explains; “This project is a great opportunity to highlight Bedminster’s diverse architecture and reference its historical significance in the city by using light, as a medium, to create a welcoming atmosphere in this public space. The aim is to create something exceptional and accessible: something people look at, enjoy, engage in and never forget.”

Bedminster’s Dean Street will also come alive with some of the best street food vendors in the South West. Wander down this usually hidden part of the town to discover an eclectic mixture of cuisines, cooked by local artisans and foodies. Taste delicious churros served by local vendor Vee Double Moo from their distinctive VW Camper van, enjoy a tipple from the Cocktail Caravan, and sample homemade burgers from local favourites Burger Theory alongside Indian and Thai cuisine.

The event, organised by Bedminster Town Team, is designed to encourage people to take to East Street, West Street and Dean Street to explore the late night economy of the area, with many of the bars creating al fresco drinking areas.

Bedminster was chosen as a winner from over 370 bids along with the original 12 other UK towns to create events and initiatives to improve the high street and surrounding area. The overall winner of the scheme will be announced in March and will receive funding to support further regeneration projects.
