This summer marks eight years since I moved to Bristol. EIGHT YEARS! I guess by now I should finally accept that I’m no longer in my mid-twenties, and I’m getting old.

Looking back on my posts on Bristol Bites since I began (that eight year anniversary will be in January 2018…) is making me realise how quickly time is flying too. It was seven years ago that No.1 Harbourside opened, and the Black Boy Inn opened back in July 2011. Spicer & Cole, just off Queen Square, opened five years ago this month, the same month in which Atomic Burger opened on Gloucester Road – and both brands have expanded since.

And can you believe it’s already been a year since the likes of Pi Shop and Turtle Bay’s Cheltenham Road restaurant opened?!

If you want to feel even older, then prepare to be shocked by the revelation that Marks & Spencer’s much-loved Percy Pig sweets are a whopping 25 years old this month. It was in 1992 that the original Percy burst onto the scene, with Percy and Pals arriving in 2002. His veggie version appeared in 2011, with Penny arriving in 2013, Globetrotting Percy in 2014 and the piglets arriving the following year. And there were plenty more varieties in between…

M&S sell over 300 million Percy sweets every year – which equates to 10 sweets every second. And it’s not surprising – since their launch they really have become a national treasure.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, M&S have created three different Percy celebration recipe videos, which you can watch below…happy birthday Percy!
