Please note: I received a free Sweet Moments by Mail box from Warrens Bakery to review, but this in no way impacted on my opinion. I was not obliged to write a positive review, and the company did not see this review before it was put up on the site.

Who doesn’t love receiving gifts by post…especially if they’re edible! But what do you do if the gift doesn’t fit through your letterbox, and you’re not home when it arrives? Arranging redelivery or having to collect from your nearest Royal Mail place can detract from some of that excitement a little.

That’s not a problem with the Sweet Moments by Mail boxes from Warrens Bakery: gift boxes filled with sweet treats that are perfect either to send as a gift, or to treat yourself with.

Established over 160 years ago in St Just, Cornwall, Warrens Bakery quickly became known for its pasties, bread, scones and biscuits – the recipes for which have been passed down through the generations. They’ve now expanded to include 40 stores across the South West, and their product offering has grown too.

They now offer a wide range of products which can be ordered and delivered via their online shop: Cornish hampers and cream teas, pasties, cakes, pastries, savoury snacks and plenty more. This range includes their letterbox-sized Sweet Moments by Mail range: choose a package including six or 12 squares of six different treats – either a box containing just one of the range, or a mixed box containing them all.

I was sent a 12-piece Sweet Moments Mixed Box (priced at £17.95, with free shipping) – and there’s one of these on offer in my competition, too – read on to find out how to enter!

It dropped through my letterbox in a beautiful cardboard box, and the presentation was lovely, too: the bakes themselves sealed with brown paper and a branded sticker, a list of ingredients and allergens stuck to the inside of the top of the box. The postcard that sat on the top gave me an indication as to what to expect inside…but I wondered how the products themselves had fared after being unceremoniously dumped through my letterbox…

The answer? They’d survived! Every single item still looked to be in pristine condition, the plastic seal keeping them both fresher for longer, and better protected.

I loved the way they’d been organised to give a bit of contrast too – definitely an attractive gift to receive through the post!

The 12-piece mixed box from Warrens Bakery includes two each of their six different treat varieties: Honeycomb Tiffin, Mint Tiffin, Millionaire’s Shortbread, Chocolate Caramel Brownie, Ruby Chocolate Tiffin (contains nuts) and Triple Chocolate Brownie. Each piece was a decent size, and they all certainly looked incredible…

I think my favourite was the Honeycomb Tiffin: with small flecks of honeycomb on top and larger pieces dotted throughout, it was a dense, rich bake. The Mint Tiffin was just as lovely and dense and I loved the fact that the peppermint flavour was natural – the crunchy minty sugar topping with its chocolate swirls worked beautifully with the biscuit and chocolate.

The super-smooth ruby chocolate on top of the Ruby Tiffin gave way to a crumbly biscuit base, studded with huge pieces of soft glacé cherry which added both texture and sweetness. The crumbled pistachio decoration was pretty, and there was a lovely hint of saltiness to these bakes, too.

The Triple Chocolate Brownie was more cakey than brownie-like but tasty – not too rich, and with a good, crunchy crust and chunks of white chocolate throughout. I preferred the Caramel Brownie which was softer in texture and richer, with the caramel giving it an extra sweetness.

Finally the Millionaire’s Shortbread…initially, just on sight, I was a little disappointed to see so much difference in the thickness of each layer – when I make it, I try and make each of the three layers fairly equal! But the crumbly shortbread was pretty well-balanced with the caramel and chocolate, and I was pleased that they weren’t sickly sweet like some.
