Less meat, but better quality meat. That’s how we’re eating at the moment – and to help do so, meat boxes can be a great investment. I was recently invited to test out the Edenmoor Essentials Meat Box, containing a selection of everyday cuts from the online butchers that are designed to make family meals simple while showcasing the company’s British, ethically-reared meat.

Over the course of a week, I cooked every item in the box, creating six very different meals (with leftovers!) – which gave me a great opportunity to judge the quality, flavour and versatility of each cut…

About Edenmoor

Edenmoor may be a new name, but the company itself isn’t. It’s a rebrand of established Devon-based business Pipers Farm, which has over 30 years of heritage in championing high-welfare British farming, partnering with a collective of independent farmers who use regenerative methods and prioritise animal welfare, provenance and sustainability.

Edenmoor specialises in grass-fed beef, properly free-range chicken, native breed pork and other responsibly sourced produce, with each product fully traceable from farm to plate.

What’s Included?

The Essentials Meat Box contains:

– 1 x Properly Free Range Whole Chicken (approximately 1.5kg)
– 500g Grass Fed Beef Mince
– 500g Properly Free Range Chicken Stir Fry Strips
– 2 Grass Fed Everyday Beef Steaks
– 6 Natural Plain Pork Sausages

Priced at £48.05, it’s ideal for smaller households or families wanting enough variety for several evening meals without struggling to find freezer space.

Delivery & Packaging

Communication throughout the delivery process was fantastic – I received regular updates on my order, with my one-hour delivery slot confirmed on the morning of delivery so I could plan accordingly.

The packaging was impressive, too. Everything arrived packed into a sturdy cardboard box, protected with wool insulation as well as ice packs. The sustainable packaging kept everything frozen as it should be – and the great news is that, once defrosted, each item can be kept in the fridge for up to three days before cooking (ideal if your evening plans often change at the last minute!)

Cooking the Box

The Edenmoor Essentials Meat Box inspired a week’s worth of very varied meals – and portion sizes meant we had plenty of leftovers for lunches, too.

Summery Roast Chicken Feast

The whole chicken became a summer take on a Sunday roast served with roasted vegetables, flatbreads, halloumi and cooling tzatziki.

The chicken roasted beautifully with golden skin while remaining incredibly juicy. The meat had a much richer flavour than a standard supermarket chicken, particularly the darker meat, which stayed beautifully succulent.

Even after feeding everyone, there was plenty left over for a risotto the following day – plus a gnocchi dish the day after.

Sausage Sharing Board

I transformed the pork sausages into a relaxed BBQ-style sharing board complete with corn on the cob, coleslaw, baby potatoes, salad, pickles, mustard and barbecue sauce.

These were proper meaty sausages with a firm texture and decent seasoning. They browned beautifully and had far less fat loss than cheaper sausages often produce.

Steak Night

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good steak dinner, so I pan-fried the grass-fed everyday steaks and served them up with cowboy butter, sweet potato fries and baby spinach.

There was pretty much no fat on these beauties, and the depth of flavour was incredible. They cooked evenly and remained tender – I have no idea what cut they were, but they were a real treat.

Chicken Fajitas

For a quick midweek meal, I pan-fried the chicken stir fry strips with peppers, onions and fajita seasoning, serving it all up in the centre of the table with flour tortillas, guacamole and sour cream.

No excess water here, unlike cheap supermarket chicken! The chicken strips stayed lovely and tender, and offered plenty of flavour, even when liberally coated with fajita seasoning.

Soy, Garlic & Ginger Beef Mince Bowls

Finally, the grass-fed mince became a delicious soy, garlic and ginger beef served over rice with cucumber, carrots and spring onions.

The mince had very little excess fat, browned nicely and delivered plenty of rich flavour. It worked perfectly in this simple Asian-inspired dish, proving that even everyday mince benefits from better quality sourcing.

Overall Thoughts

After cooking every item in the Edenmoor Essentials Meat Box, I was seriously impressed with the quality. Even after being frozen, every cut had a noticeably superior flavour to standard supermarket meat, and the box offered enough variety to create a range of very different meals.

The delivery service was faultless and everything arrived in perfect frozen condition (even in this heat!), ready to go straight into the freezer.

Edenmoor does sit at a higher price point than many supermarket options, but that’s to be expected: you get what you pay for. And that’s grass-fed beef, properly free-range chicken, high animal welfare standards, regenerative farming practices and complete traceability from farm to fork, all of which are reflected in the cooking process and the flavour on the plate.

If you’re looking for a convenient way to stock your freezer with premium British meat while supporting responsible farming, the Edenmoor Essentials Meat Box is well worth considering.
