Suffolk Adventure Golf in Cornard Tye, just outside Sudbury, is far more than your average crazy golf course. Set within beautifully landscaped grounds, it’s part of a wider leisure complex that also includes a driving range, pitch and putt golf, footgolf and golf lessons, with padel courts reportedly on the way, too.
Add in plenty of free parking and the wonderfully retro Old Joe’s Tearoom on-site for food and drinks afterwards, and you’ve got a brilliant day out for families, friends and couples alike.
There’s no need to prebook a slot at Suffolk Adventure Golf – simply head to reception when you arrive and pay for your game. It’s priced at £10 for adults, £8 for children under 14, or £30 for a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 kids. Once you’ve paid, you can choose your own coloured golf ball then either grab a traditional scorecard or scan a code to register your scores online for a chance to feature on the leaderboard.
From there, you head to the course entrance, pick up a golf club (there’s a range of sizes available) and it’s time to tee off.
I honestly think this is the best crazy golf course we’ve ever played. What really sets Suffolk Adventure Golf apart is its Suffolk-themed design, with every hole inspired by local history, landmarks, legends or famous figures, and information boards at the start of each hole adding an educational twist. From the bat caves in Bury St Edmunds to the eerie legend of Black Shuck, from the famous ugly tree at Stowlangtoft Hall to Suffolk artists like John Constable, it’s genuinely fascinating for adults and children alike.
The holes themselves are brilliantly designed, with loads of variety throughout the course. Many feature multiple different routes to the holes, which encourages a bit of tactical thinking alongside the fun! At one point you’ll find yourself whacking your golf ball into the mouth of a giant snake, while elsewhere you’ll watch it travel down a stream of fast-flowing water before it reaches the hole.
There are also some great animatronic elements along the way, including a singing tree and a roaring dragon. Our son loved the little boat crossing across one water feature, where he could pull himself from one side to the other using a rope.
Between the themed holes are beautifully maintained plant beds, water features and landscaping that all demonstrates just how much thought and effort has gone into creating Suffolk Adventure Golf – we were impressed!
This is an activity that is entertaining, surprisingly educational, beautifully presented and full of enough variety to keep both children and adults engaged. Definitely recommended!
